Update: My Minimal Mac
Ever since I contributed to Minimal Mac I’ve been striving to make my computing experience as simple as possible. I’m happy to announce that I finally found a system that works for me. I’ve been able to take my minimal mac-ism to a whole new level using a set of Apps that I now cannot live without.
The Apps are as follows:
I had been using drop box for a while, but just as temporary storage for files that I wanted to be able to access while I was at work. I now use it to store my Yojimbo notes and log.txt file that was inspired by Minimal Mac’s creator Patrick Rhone. I use this file to write drafts for my blog posts, ideas for design projects or just to take notes quickly. Dropbox makes accessing these particular files easy from any computer that I can get my hands on and the portability of the log.txt makes it certain that my document is going to open.
Quicksilver is truly groundbreaking. I have many triggers set up to save me time; whether it’s launching apps, moving files or renaming documents, Quicksilver makes it all possible with a couple of keystrokes. It works so well that I no longer have anything in my dock. I launch everything with Quicksilver. I’m still blown away by what this App has to offer.
XMenu lets me access my most important folders right from my menu bar. Instead of clicking my way through columns, I can just click once and see a list of the folders I use the most. Since I use the existing Mac folder setup I only display the folders that are in my Home folder.
These three Apps have truly revolutionized my workflow and since I spend the majority of my life in front of the computer it has in turn made my life less stressful. If you haven’t looked into ways of optimizing your workflow, I recommend that you do so as soon as possible. You can really feel the difference.
